Final Submission

Here is my final submission for Experiment 3.
An architectural school inspired by the works of Zaha Hadid and Rem Koolhaas. A modern structure, that can be seen as both complex, and simple. A structure that is large and dominating, yet looks like it could topple over at any moment.

Final Images

Here are my final Images of my Bridge, Elevators and Folly.

The Bridge - A bridge that is both dominating and fragile. It is very large, but looks like a gust of wind could make it fall.

The Gallery Space connects the lecture theatre to the rest of the school. This forces students to be surrounded by inspiration as the travel from lectures to studio.

Down to computer labs and workshop

Up to Studio. There is greenery parallel to the staircases. This gives a positive atmosphere inside and contrasts the atmosphere of the outside.

The elevators connecting to the Bridge.

The Folly, much like the bridge, is very large yet fragile. It has lots of tunnels and pathways, but very little of it is actually connected to the land, meaning gravitationally, it could fall over with any weight.

Sections

Here are some sections I did last week which I forgot to upload

Draft 2

I changed the shape of my bridge from being a simple extrusion to a more interesting shape, which still retains the shape of the plan in section. I made a rough, semi-legible plan in pen over the top.

I spent some time building the Library, Student and Academic spaces, and mainly the Studio spaces which go up along one side of the bridge.

Below the studio spaces are shown in section. Stairs run alongside the rising arm of the bridge, with studio spaces on one side, and an indoor garden on the other. This will give the space a much nicer atmosphere, contrasting the desert on the outside.

On the top floor here is the library space, with the gallery space below it, and the lecture theatre and offices below that. To access the lecture theatre and office one must go through a glass spiral staircase, giving a view of the environment. On the top right are two rooms which act as meeting spaces for students and teachers. To get to these spaces there is a staircase which is an homage to Rem Koolhaas's stairs in Maison A Bordeaux, as he is one of the main architects of my theory.

Drafts

This week I worked on 2 drafts. The first one I didn't mind, but I came to prefer the second one.
I feel that the second one looks more like a giant object teetering in the balance, which relates back to my theory.

Cryengine would't work this week. Supposedly they are doing maintenance.

These are all based off of an upside down Zaha Hadid plan of the Riverside Museum.
